Important changes in Stamp Duty rates

Covid-19 is impacting on lives globally and proving lockdown to be an ongoing challenge.  As restrictions are gradually being lifted, the economy has plummeted significantly since the first signs of contraction back in January 2020. In the hope to give the economy the boost it needs, the Chancellor of Exchequer has made some temporary changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax over the next nine months to help property buyers in the market.

Reduced rates

As from 8th July 2020 until 31 March 2021 inclusive, reduced rates will be available. You only start to pay Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) on the amount that you pay for a property valued above £500,000. These rates apply whether you are a first-time buyer or have owned a property before.
