Why might I need a trust?

Trusts are often regarded as being used solely to save tax but that is not the case.  Our experience is that trusts are used to protect the assets from third party claims and to ensure maximum benefit for the generations.

How do I create a trust?

Trusts can be incorporated into your Will or created as part of your lifetime planning.  Examples are:

  • To protect vulnerable beneficiaries
  • To gift money to a child to help with the purchase of a property and at the same time ensuring the child retains the benefit rather than their partner should things not work out
  • Set funds aside for grandchildren
  • Trusts designed to receive pension funds or death in service benefits

What is involved in Trust administration?

In addition to the setting up of trusts we can also assist with the on-going administration of trusts including

  • Arranging the registration of the trust with HMRC
  • Advising trustees on their duties and responsibilities
  • Preparing annual trust accounts where required
  • Advising on the periodic charge for inheritance tax
  • Advising on the winding up of trusts and the distribution of the assets
