Making a Will

No one knows what the future will hold so careful planning is essential no matter your age or circumstances.

Do I need a Will?

Everyone needs to make a Will and not just those in their twilight years. Provision for your family is just as important when you are just starting out especially where there are young children but also if you have no children at all. Failing to plan could mean your estate passes to those who you would not wish to benefit or in some cases, to those you do not even know are related to you. Dying without a well-drafted Will could also result in more tax being paid than would otherwise have been the case.

How much will it cost?

  • A simple Will for an individual is £250 plus Vat at 20% and for a couple £450 plus Vat at 20%.
  • An Asset Protection Will for a couple will cost between £625 plus VAT at 20% and £800 plus Vat at 20%depending on how you hold the house
  • Discretionary Trust Wills typically cost £1,500 plus VAT at 20% but this will depend on the level of additional advice you need to protect your assets and beneficiaries.
  • If you decide against proceeding, we will make a charge for the first meeting to reflect the advice given and the time spent

What type of Will do I need?

There are many different types of Will ranging from the simple to the more complex designed to mitigate the impact of long-term care or inheritance tax. The most common forms are:

  • Simple Wills for either an individual or a couple
  • Asset Protection Wills designed to protect your estate from third party claims such as care fees or second marriages
  • Discretionary Trust Wills that are especially useful for larger estates and can help protect the next generation from third party claims such as bankruptcy, divorce and taxation.
  • Wills incorporating trusts to protect beneficiaries with a disability and in need of additional support.
  • Wills to assist with business succession planning
